Message from USAID/Sri Lanka

Thank you for visiting our website.

Sri Lanka stands at a pivotal point in its modern history. The end of its 26-year secessionist war presents both opportunities and challenges in development.

USAID assistance has in recent years centered on stabilizing and developing lagging regions. Since the war's conclusion in 2009, USAID has played a lead role in humanitarian assistance to nearly 300,000 displaced people. Going forward, USAID will address Sri Lankan development priorities in these regions.

USAID will continue to help stabilize resettled communities by implementing recovery projects; creating livelihood opportunities; improving access to training; and strengthening local governments and civic organizations.

The mission in Sri Lanka also manages development assistance projects in the Maldives. USAID currently supports training and technical assistance to build capacity in the Maldives National Elections Commission and in civil society organizations and also provides assistance on climate change adaptation.

We encourage you to spend some time browsing our Website and learning how USAID works to support the people of Sri Lanka.
